Car rollover knocks down power pole, cutting electricity to homes

- More than 600 people are without power Monday and four people are recovering in the hospital after a vehicle got tangled up in downed power lines on Eastway Drive and flipped over.

The road is not expected to re-open until 6 p.m. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said around 1 a.m. Monday, a family of four was in the vehicle that flipped near Eastway Drive and Commercial Avenue. The daughter and son, just 13 and 10-years-old, were transported to Presbyterian Hospital and are expected to be OK.

Another family car also got caught in these lines, police said. A family and two kids, ages 10 and less than 1-year-old, were in the second car.

Downed power lines sparked a small fire, damaging the second car.
