Carjacking suspect sought after fleeing officers in east Charlotte

- A carjacking suspect led Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police on a vehicle pursuit yesterday afternoon in east Charlotte.

The vehicle had been stolen earlier Saturday on Providence Rd in an armed carjacking.  No one was injured in that incident.

Police say around 3:12 PM officers located the stolen vehicle at the intersection of Harrisburg Rd & Pence Rd in east Charlotte and tried to initiate a traffic stop.  The suspect failed to stop and police started pursuing the vehicle.

During the pursuit the suspect vehicle struck another vehicle on Harrisburg Rd at Parkton Rd and continued driving a short distance until the vehicle was inoperable due to the damage from the crash.

One of the occupants then ran from the vehicle armed with a firearm. K-9 officers were called in to search for that suspect, but they were unable to locate them. However, K-9 officers were able to locate the firearm in the woods.

The other two occupants in the vehicle were detained and questioned by detectives.  It was later determined that they were not involved with the theft of the vehicle.  Police say evidence shows that they had just gotten a ride by the suspect and was unaware of the robbery that had taken place.

Anyone with information on this case or the suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704.334.1600.
