RALEIGH, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - 'Toby' the cat finally found a 'furever' family after the ones he felt closest to brought him to a local animal shelter to be euthanized.
When Toby's family gave him away to another family, the cat escaped, and walked 12 miles back to his home. In a terrible twist, the family he thought had loved him took him to a shelter and asked staff to put him down, according to SPCA of Wake County.
That shelter reportedly called SPCA of Wake County requesting if they could take him and help him find a new family.
"Of course we said yes!" SPCA of Wake County said in a Facebook post.
Those who saw Toby's story on social media expressed anger and frustration towards the family that was so easily willing to put Toby down.
Once in SPCA of Wake County's caring hands, the cute cat found a new home quickly in Raleigh.
"He has new siblings, one feline, and two human, and a cat-savvy mom to show him what a loving family is really like," SPCA of Wake County said.
Toby's story has touched thousands of people's hearts. His post has more than 1,000 reactions and has been shared hundreds of times.
