CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - Emily Francis moved from Guatemala to the United States when she was 15-years-old and learned how to speak English by watching the Ellen show.
Francis now teaches English as a second language at W.M. Irvin Elementary School in Concord where she's getting results for needy students with the school's backpack program.
The program sends food home with needy students over the weekends.
Earlier this year Francis got the surprise of a lifetime from Ellen, receiving a $100,000 check for her school's program. The check came courtesy of the Chobani Foundation.
The Ellen show also included a live shot straight from Francis' classroom, where all her students cheered. Francis joined Good Day Charlotte on Tuesday to talk about the amazing surprise.
