CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - The Charlotte Fire Department has expanded fire protection in one of the busiest areas of the city.
On June 30, 2018, Engine Company 65 was added to Fire Station 42, located in the 5600 block of Central Ave. in east Charlotte. Fire officials say this is one of the busiest areas of the city.
Engine 42 and Engine 15 are responsible for that part of east Charlotte and collectively responded to over 9,000 calls for service in FY 2018. When both of these engine companies were tied up on calls and another call was received in their area, an engine company from an adjacent station would have to respond, which impacted response times.
With the addition of Engine 65 at Station 42 this will address the excessive call load and achieve critical departmental response time goals and ensure reliable coverage, according to the fire department.
