8-year-old struck by car in front of east Charlotte daycare

- A young girl was rushed to the hospital after being hit by a car in front of an east Charlotte daycare Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, the incident happened in the 5700 block of Farm Pond Lane. Officials at Farm Pond KinderCare confirmed to FOX 46 that one of their students, an 8-year-old girl, was hit by a red car in front of the daycare.

Police said the child was getting off the bus when she was hit.

Her parents have been notified.

The child suffered minor injuries and was taken to Carolinas Medical Center-Main, according to Medic.

A parent at the scene told FOX 46 that teachers at the daycare rarely stand outside to watch the children get on the bus or walk across the street to a nearby apartment complex.

Daycare officials said the car involved was still at the scene. Our cameras captured a man being taken into custody. It's unclear if that person will face charges.
