An argument about a one-way road led to the shooting death of a mom, and a father being seriously injured. According to the Cleveland County Sheriff's office, their child witnessed the whole thing.
Myla Nicole Oaks, 32, died. Her husband, Jeffery, is in critical condition at the hospital. Both of them were shot in the head, according to the sheriffs office.
Deputies say immediately after the shooting, Oaks' child ran to a school bus that had just come by and told the bus driver. The driver picked up the student, and took the child to school. The child is middle school-aged.
The shooting happened on Mann Court in Kings Mountain Wednesday morning. A captain with the sheriff's office says Robert Chad Bridges, 40, is in custody and has been charged with first-degree murder.
According to a friend of the suspect, the Oaks family had a history of problems with Bridges.
A series of civil and criminal documents had been filed by both parties at the Cleveland County courthouse. A previous arrest warrant was made against Bridges of assault by pointing a gun, according to Cleveland County court documents.
The child's grandparents will take care of him for now.
Bridges is set to appear in court Thursday.
