Cigarette thief on the loose in Gastonia

- A cigarette thief stole multiple cartons of cigarettes from four different stores in Gastonia on Saturday.

The first incident reported happened shortly after 6 a.m. at the York Express Mart on South York Rd. The store was broken into by damaging the front door. Around 100 cartons of Marlboro cigarettes were taken.

The second incident happened around 8:15 p.m. at the Family Dollar on North Chester St. One carton of Newports, valued at $64, were stolen from the store.  And then around 10:20 p.m. another carton of Newports, valued at $64, were stolen from the Kingsway #1 on W. Franklin Blvd. 

Finally, around 1:15 a.m. Sunday, the Times Turn Around on Union Road was robbed at gunpoint by 3 individuals. They got away with $150 and 8 packs of Newports. 

Gastonia Police has not released a description of the suspects involved or said if they think these incidents are related. The total value of the cigarettes stolen were $6,592.

Police are investigating.
