City doesn't reach settlement with family of Keith Lamont Scott

- It was a setback for the family of Keith Lamont Scott: A settlement with the city of Charlotte could not be reached, according to Justin Bamberg, a family's attorney.

A civil suit now in the works.

In a statement Bamberg sent to FOX 46 he says, in part:

"While we believe we made a reasonable offer to settle the impending civil action based on the underlying facts surrounding Keith's untimely death, one side cannot negotiate with itself. At this point, we are left with no choice but to proceed with filing a civil lawsuit."

Bamberg adds the family's still open to negotiation. He says they're frustrated because this decision makes it seem like they're only out for money.

The city of Charlotte then released a statement of their own saying:

"The city respects the family's right to take the matter to court beyond that, we don't have any additional comment.

FOX 46 will keep you updated as the civil suit progresses.

FULL STATEMENT FROM JUSTIN BAMBERG, ESQ:

We have been attempting unsuccessfully to amicably resolve the civil matter with the city. While we believe we made a reasonable offer to settle the impending civil action based on the underlying facts surrounding Keith's untimely death, one side cannot negotiate with itself. At this point, we are left with no choice but to proceed with filing a civil lawsuit. This has been a painful process for Rakeyia Scott and Keith's children, as well as for many throughout the Charlotte community. We remain forever grateful to all those who supported and encouraged the Scott family through these trying times.
