Cleanup underway at Charlotte Motor Speedway following Coca-Cola 600

- Clean-up is underway at the Charlotte Motor Speedway after last night's exciting Coca-Cola 600.

“NASCAR fans have a big tailgate time, so you can tell by looking around area, there are plenty of beer cans and plenty of trash to be picked up but it's all part of the experience,” a Speedway employee said.

An inflatable pool, a pair of shoes, and a giant piece of carpet are just some of the items found in the infield of the Charlotte Motor Speedway on Monday, a day after the Coca-Cola 600.

“I think the oddest thing is articles of clothing that you wouldn't want to be seen without, when we find shorts but people leave shoes behind which I think is odd,” an employee said.

The folks at stadium clean say it only takes picking up around 10 seats before they get a trash bag full, and the rain kind of weighs everything down.

“Now that it's wet, it goes quicker and it's heavier,” the employee said.

Among all this trash, we found a treasure-- the NASCAR RV.

Charlene, the owner of the bus used an airbrush to paint the RV with all kinds of NASCAR-related logos. The bus has also been signed by drivers, but Charlene says this is its last ride at charlotte.

“She got into an accident this year, so she's retiring,” Charlene told FOX 46.

But the owners, who are from from Ontario, Canada don't want her to end up in the trash pile.

“Maybe it can go to a track or to a museum, we'd like to put it some place where it's going to be seen rather than a wrecking yard,” she said.

While they head home and ponder the RV's future, workers won't stop cleaning around the track anytime soon.

“We'll be here at least until Wednesday,” the employee said. “We'll have six different crews working over the course of the next three days and each of those crews is about 50 people.”
