CMPD charges suspect with west Charlotte murder

- A man has been charged with last month's murder at a west Charlotte apartment complex, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Reginald Bernard Wilson, 30, is facing murder and firearm by felon charges for killing 31-year-old Jonathan Dominique Cauthen. This was Charlotte's 67th murder of the year.

Just before 3:00 a.m. on Sept. 28, officers were called to the scene in the 2200 block of Catherine Simmons Ave. for an assault with a deadly weapon. Upon arrival, officers found Cauthen with an apparent gun shot wound. he was pronounced dead on the scene. 

Information gathered throughout the investigation led officers to believe Wilson was the suspect. A warrant was issued for his arrest and Wilson was taken into custody without incident on Friday.

He is being held at the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office. Anyone with additional information on this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to Detective Collins, the lead detective on this case.
