CMPD investigate breaking and entering incidents, officer injured

- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to an attempted breaking and entering Monday afternoon where an officer was injured.

Officers were called out to the 8400 block of Rego Street. The witness on Rego Street gave officers a vehicle description that the suspects were last seen driving.

About 30 minutes later officers responded to an occupied breaking and entering in the 9200 block of Carrot Patch Drive.

The resident was home when the suspects kicked in the front door, according to CMPD.

When officers arrived on scene they came across a suspect trying to leave in a vehicle and another who took off on foot.

Not long after the suspect in the vehicle crashed on Lakeview Drive and was taken into custody.

Officers charged Robert Johnson for his involvement in the incident. Johnson ran from police and was found a short time later, according to CMPD.

CMPD says an officer sustained minor injuries during the struggle on Carrot Patch Drive and was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Officers are continuing to investigate the accident on Lakeview Road.

Detectives are looking into both cases to see if they are connected, but at this time the vehicle description appears to be similar.
