CMPD investigating city's 73rd homicide in west Charlotte

- A man died in the hospital from his injuries after being shot Thursday afternoon by an unknown person in west Charlotte, police said. 

Just before 4:00 p.m. Thursday, officers were called to the 2300 block of Farmer St. for an assault with a deadly weapon. The caller said one person had been shot.

Upon arrival, officers found Detavious Springs, 24, with a gunshot wound in a nearby apartment in the 1700 block of West Blvd. Springs was shot in the abdomen and taken to Carolina’s Medical Center where he passed away during surgery.

CMPD reports that the initial investigation revealed that the victim and a female witness were near the intersection of Farmer St. and Romare Bearden Dr. when the shooting occurred. 

Detectives are currently interviewing witnesses to gather more details on the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Detective Peacock, the lead homicide detective on the case, or another homicide unit detective.
