Police says a man was driving under the influence when he hit and killed a pedestrian in Charlotte. The accident happened around 2:40 a.m. Monday on Central Avenue near Rosehaven. CMPD says the driver drove off after hitting the pedestrian.
They towed a Honda minivan that they believe was involved in the accident.
Detectives say just after the crash, Luis Fernando Perez-Rivera called 911 and said someone moved his van from its parking space. The van was parked at the building next door. Once police interviewed Perez-Rivera, they charged him with driving while impaired, felony death and vehicle hit and run. They believe Perez-Rivera was also speeding just before the crash.
Police haven't released the identity of the victim yet because they're trying to notify his family.
