CMPD investigating homicide after vehicle crashes into Novant Health

- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating a homicide in southeast Charlotte that led to a vehicle crash into Novant Health, according to CMPD.

The incident happened at the 3600 block of Wheatley Avenue around 1:30 a.m. Monday.

Officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon. When officers arrived they found evidence that led to the shooting, according to CMPD.

A short time later, officers responded to Novant Presbyterian Hospital regarding a vehicle that hit the entrance to the emergency room.

Two people in the vehicle sustained apparent gunshot wounds. One victim, Markas Vereen was later pronounced deceased by ER staff.

Police are continuing to investigate.
