CMPD officer helps elderly veteran who was robbed get new ID, bank card and bus pass

- The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is trying to get results in your neighborhood by performing simple acts of kindness.

Case in point, Officer Andrew Spottswood came across an elderly man who had been taken advantage of. A woman stole his wallet with all his money and IDs, and he had no where to turn.

Officer Spottswood took the man to the DMV, paid the fees to get him a replacement ID, took him to the bank to get a new bank card, and then took them to CATS for a bus pass so he could get around town.

The CMPD officer then bought the man a hot meal.

"It was an opportunity to show compassion. That man doesn't know me, doesn't know my partner, just sees me in blue. It was a wonderful opportunity, and I'm really glad to have helped him with his problem during his storm," Officer Spottswood said.

Officer Spottswood said he holds a special place in his heart for this man because he's a veteran, just like he is.
