CMPD officer injured trying to detain 2 suspects

- A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officer was injured Saturday afternoon when trying to detain two men who were trying to break into a vehicle.

CMPD says around 1:15 p.m. an officer who was patrolling the 3700 block of Piney Grove Rd. in east Charlotte observed two males that appeared to be breaking into a car. The officer drew his gun in an attempt to take them into custody. Both males refused to follow the officers commands and began to run from the scene.

One of the males continued to run but the other turned around and charged at the officer and tried to take his gun from him. During the struggle the officer received non-life threatening injuries. That suspect then ran from the scene. It is likely that he may have injuries as well, due to the struggle.

Officers say neither suspect was caught by police. The suspect that charged at the officer is a black male, about 19-years-old, 6'2, short hair and no facial hair. He was last seen wearing a blue t-shirt.

The second suspect is a black male with short hair, last seen wearing a white t-shirt.

Anyone with information concerning this case or the suspects is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
