CMPD officer saves life, is honored with Officer of the Month

- Let’s face it, when you're a police officer, you never know what your day may bring.

For CMPD Officer Adam Jones, he was confronted with a decision that ended up saving someone's life, and changed his forever.

Attention is something that does not come easy for officers on patrol, but the recognition is well deserved for Officer Adam Jones of CMPD’s Steele Creek division.

After receiving a call of shots fired, Jones arrived on scene and found a young woman with half her leg blown off. She was losing a lot of blood, so he quickly applied a tourniquet.

"It was extremely humbling most of us probably nine out of ten of us sign up to do this job to help people, and thank God I was just in the right place at the right time."

Doctors say 18-year-old Sharae Johnson would not have survived if it weren't for Officer Jones’ quick thinking. Knowing how emotional the whole incident was, Officer Jones and his partner Officer Craig Earls went to visit Sharae in the hospital.

"I'm very thankful that I was able to help her. It was probably one of the most gratifying things about this job is when you see that have helped somebody and you have made a difference in somebody's life."
