CMPD officer writes children's book

- A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer is being decorated with a new title: author. Officer Chad Webster is the creator of the new children's book, Mystery Muffin and Soda Pop Sleuth in the Legend of Mr. Creepy.

"Mystery Muffin is an officer's daughter and she's kind of following in his footsteps investigating the strange things happening in their fictional neighborhood," Webster said.

The CMPD officer says he grew up with a love for writing short stories, but it was a struggle.

"I really enjoyed Scooby Doo, Encyclopedia Brown, and The Hardy Boys, but when I was younger I had a lot of reading comprehension issues. I struggled with reading, some math. I still struggle with math."

Officer Webster says he drew inspiration for the story from his four children, especially his three daughters.

The book may be the start of something big, but Officer Webster wants it to ultimately be a legacy for his family.

Mystery Muffin and Soda Pop Sleuth in the Legend of Mr. Creepy is available July 31.
