CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A man has died following a single-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning in northwest Charlotte, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.
The wreck happened around 1:30 a.m. in the 9800 block of Bellhaven Boulevard at I-485.
Upon arrival, officers located a black Kia Optima off the road to the left and was at the bottom of an embankment. The driver and passenger were both transported from the scene to CMC.
Police said the driver, identified as Diondre Price, 22, sustained life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at 2:05 a.m. at the hospital by ER staff.
According to authorities, the Kia Optima, operated by Price, was traveling northwest on Bellhaven Boulevard and ran off the road to the right. The driver then overcorrected, causing the vehicle to travel across both lanes of travel and run off the roadway to the left.
The vehicle then traveled down an embankment, striking multiple trees before coming to a final resting position. Price was fully ejected from the Kia. The passenger, Miyatta Free, 22, was partially ejected and sustained minor injuries.
Speed and alcohol are suspected in this crash. This crash remains under investigation.
