CMPD say security guard was 'justified' in shooting armed robber

- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department detectives are saying a security officer was justified in shooting a man who tried to rob a business.

Around midnight on Aug. 23, Julian Anthony Harris, 32, tried to rob Queen City Skillville, a sweepstakes and gaming company located in the 5600 block of Albemarle Rd.

According to police, Harris and an unidentified accomplice were armed when they went into the business. Harris pointed the gun at members of the staff while trying to rob the store 

The security guard, who was armed, fired one shot which struck Harris. Both Harris and the accomplice fled the scene on foot. Harris was found dead in a wooded area behind the business.

The Mecklenburg District Attorney's Office will review CMPD's investigation and make a final decision.
