CMPD: Shots fired into NW Charlotte daycare while children were inside

Children were inside Fran’s Kids daycare on Beatties Ford Road when gunfire erupted just after 9:00 p.m. Thursday, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

An incident report says the shooter fired from the outside into Fran’s Kids on Beatties Ford Road.

“It’s crazy. This world is getting crazier by the day,” said Shaqueena, who grew up off Beatties Ford Road in northwest Charlotte.

Seven kids, ranging from ages two to 11, and two adults were inside when the bullet riddled the daycare, according to police. No one was injured.

“It’s really disheartening. I really wish it wouldn’t have happened, and I just pray for everyone’s safety,” Shaqueena said.

Shaqueena’s children went to Fran’s Kids years ago. Her mom still lives in the community.

“This area is a little shaky, but I’ve been over here for the majority of my life, and I’ve never heard of anything like this happening.”

The shooter has not been caught. Police aren’t saying if the gunman came in a car or walked to the daycare, or if the bullet was meant for the daycare at all.

“Put the guns away. There’s no need to be endangering people’s lives,” Shaqueena said.

She’s hoping the place where she grew up turns around.

“It has to stop. We have to put an end to it. Senseless.”
