CMPD stepping up traffic enforcement as holidays approach

- The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has started to increase their enforcement of traffic laws as the holiday season approaches.

On Friday evening, the department hosted a traffic safety saturation patrol in North Charlotte along the Sunset Rd. & Statesville Rd. area. The traffic enforcement event took place between 11 pm and 3 am, and included a total of 17 officers.

Officers were looking for traffic violators, including impaired drivers. The mobile breath testing bus was on site to conduct alcohol sobriety tests.

Police say the goal of the operation is to increase traffic safety, reduce crashes, and educate the public. As the holidays approach, CMPD reminds the public of the dangers of impaired driving, distracted driving, and neglecting traffic laws.

Here are the results of the operation:

  • DWI -  1

  • NO OPERATOR LICENSE - 6
  • DRIVING WHILE LICENSE REVOKED - 6
