CMPD: String of armed robberies hitting Latino community

- A bullet hole shows some of the aftermath from Monday morning's shooting in the Steele Creek area that has a man in the hospital recovering.

"We were sleeping and heard the shots - like five or more. It's scary, real scary when I saw the man lying on the ground i went to call 911," said Israel Santiago, a resident at Lexington Green Apartments said.

According to CMPD, this crime fits the patterns of several armed robberies over the last two weeks in Latino communities -- by two to four Latino suspects.

They are committed in the early morning hours and they generally stay to apartment complexes," said Sgt. Brian Scharf with CMPD.

Police say descriptions have been tough to come by because the suspects have been masked.

"The only description we have is a shorter potentially 5'6", 5'7" heavier Hispanic male and a taller, thinner Hispanic male," said Sgt Scharf.

With the suspects still on the loose and the shooting happening just feet from Israel's place he admits he's shaken up and looks forward to when police make an arrest.

"I just hope they find the people and I hope that my neighbor is ok," said Santiago.
