CMS names Jordan Todd 2016 Teacher of the Year

- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools has named Jordan Todd of Walter G. Byers School its 2016 Teacher of the Year.

The ceremony was held at Providence High School on May 4.

Todd joined CMS in 2012 after working in the mental health field. She’s taught the second-grade class she has today since they were kindergartners, which has allowed her to create strong bonds with her students and their parents.

“We are a family,” said Todd in a written statement, released on Wednesday. “The greatest thing is seeing how much they grow and learn in these few years.”

Other finalists in the Teacher of the Year competition were: Maggie Barker of Park Road Montessori, Natasha Deese of Butler High, Heather Glover of Blythe Elementary, Rob Leichner of West Mecklenburg High, Justin Parmenter of E.E. Waddell Language Academy and Lauren Rohrer of Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle.

CMS Superintendent Ann Clark presented Todd with a set of keys to a car from Keffer Volkswagen, which Todd will have for a year.

Each finalist received a $100 gift card and a basket of school supplies from Classroom Central.
