CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - A mixed bag of precipitation is expected to move across the FOX 46 viewing area into this weekend.
A storm system will develop in the Midwest and move towards our area Friday into Saturday.
The mountains have the best chance of snow and ice accumulation, but a wintry mix can't be ruled out along I-40 and north of I-85.
At onset there is potential for this system to start as a mixed bag of precipitation Saturday before switching over to snow into Saturday night.
The heaviest looks to be between Saturday night and Sunday. The low pressure that's expected to bring the moisture into our area has yet to form. It may not form until Thursday or even Friday.
As warmer air moves in Sunday the precipitation would likely turn into all rain. The highest snowfall totals will show up in the mountains counties of Avery, Ashe and Watauga.
Amounts drop as you move southeast across the viewing area with little to no snow amounts expected along and south of I-85.
Of course, this is ALL highly subject to change as the event approaches.
