CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A Charlotte city council member is calling for a public dialogue to discuss the "strong possibility" that Charlotte will be selected to host the Republican National Convention in 2020.
Council member Braxton Winston released a video on Facebook Monday night requesting that bringing the RNC to Charlotte should be more than just an economic development decision.
"We would be asking the people of Charlotte to host a celebration for a brand of politics that has been highly divisive and some would say dangerous to our community," Winston said in the Facebook post. "The people of Charlotte deserve to be engaged by their leaders as we consider this decision."
Winston said he does not believe that city leaders have done sufficient enough job of engaging with the community on this matter. He went on to say that it is "all but guaranteed" that the Queen City would be selected at the host city for the RNC.
