Couple robbed, threatened with machete-like knife at laundry mat

- The Stanley Police Department is investigating after they said a group of people robbed a couple at knifepoint late Tuesday outside of a local laundry mat.

The incident happened at 10:31 p.m. Tuesday, June 14 at the Coin Laundry Mat located at 342 North Main Street in Stanley.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with Christy Leann Carver and Christopher David Cohn. Carver said she had been sitting on a wooden bench outside of the laundry mat looking at her Google Tablet when three unknown suspects dressed in all black with blue bandannas covering their faces came around from the backside of the building and grabbed her.

Carver said that one of the suspects held a machete-like knife to her throat and demanded money. She said at this point her boyfriend came out and started fighting one of the men and received a cut to his face from the knife.

Cohn told police he was trying to defend his girlfriend and actually punched one of the suspects before being cut.

Carver said the suspects took her computer tablet worth $300 and $20 in change, and left on foot heading north out of the parking lot.

County K9 was requested and responded to the scene. The K9 tracked to the area behind Stanley Middle School before losing the track. No suspects were located as a result.

Cohn was taken to Caromont Regional Medical Center in Mount Holly for treatment.
