MOUNT HOLLY, NC (WJZY) - Crews battled a massive fire Thursday afternoon at a local church in Mount Holly.
The fire broke out at First Baptist Church located along S. Main Street.
The sanctuary was 90-years- old, but FOX 46 Charlotte was told the church formed in 1800s, probably as old as the town of Mt. Holly itself.
Witnesses on scene said they heard authorities claiming the fire started in the attic.
Hours later, crews were still on scene Thursday putting out hot spots.
Locals in the area said they're heartbroken over the loss.
