CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - Help is on the way and progress is expected to be made Tuesday on a massive sinkhole that's been plaguing the Mallard Creek Road area, authorities said.
It's been once week since thunderstorms hammered the area and swept away a section of Mallard Creek Road in north Charlotte, creating a large sinkhole and shutting down the street.
Detour signs remain posted on the road, but help is on the way. Crews plan to put in a new pipe Tuesday where the large sinkhole was created during a 'perfect storm'. The street collapsed last Monday night during heavy rain when a truck loaded with Amazon packages drove over the bridge.
The driver was injured in the wreck, but is expected to be OK.
School buses and vehicle have had to detour around Prosperity Church and Johnston Orr Road until the sinkhole is repaired.
Officials tell FOX 46 Charlotte their goal is to have the road back open by Labor Day.
