CONCORD, NC (WJZY) - A South Carolina man that makes his living restoring cars is without his prized possession thanks to thieves on a crime spree.
Mike Lee owns Mr. Scrape Customs in Sumter, South Carolina. He’s in town for the annual Charlotte AutoFair at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Thursday night he parked his red 1983 GMC pickup truck at the Embassy Suites.
"Went outside to come back to the show and it was gone,” he said.
Lee wasn't the only one to have a truck stolen overnight. According to Concord Police, there were two other cases of older model trucks being stolen from hotel parking lots.
Police say a 1995 Chevy was stolen from the Hilton Garden Inn and a 1985 Chevy was stolen from Suburban Extended Stay.
Detectives say they believe all three thefts are connected.
Lee has other cars he’s hoping to sell to cover the loss, but for him it’s not all about the money. The cars take months of attention and hard work.
"For somebody to just come through and steal them like it's nothing. It's the ultimate slap in the face,” Lee explained.
Lee is offering $1,500 as a reward for the truck’s return.
Officials at the speedway say they haven’t had any issues with thefts at the race track.
