Dad getting new kidney after son writes letter to President Trump

- The father of an eight-year-old boy who wrote to President Trump asking for help getting his dad a kidney is now scheduled to have transplant surgery next month.

Three years ago, Trae Putnam, found out he had a rare blood disease that caused his kidneys to fail. He’s on dialysis in desperate need of a transplant.

In December 2017, Fore Putnam wrote letters to the three most powerful people he could think of-- Donald Trump, Ivanka Trump and Santa-- asking for help getting a new kidney for his dad, Trae.

"Because that's really the one important thing I really wanted for Christmas,” Fore said.

Much to Fore's surprise, President Trump wrote back to him, saying, in part:

"I'm so sorry to hear that your dad is going through a difficult time...I have shared your letter with my staff and they are working to see what help they can provide."

Fore was beyond excited when FOX 46 spoke with him back in March when he received the president's letter.

“I was like, ‘I just got a letter from Donald Trump! That's pretty cool!’” Fore said.

Fore wouldn't give up hope that his dad will get a new kidney, and neither did his dad. In fact, Trae told FOX 46 he felt better just knowing the President saw Fore's letter.

The family said after their story was shared, they were flooded with calls from people across the country who wanted to donate a kidney to Trae, and now, it's finally becoming a reality.

Trae's surgery is scheduled for mid-October. The family believes the attention garnered from their story is what made this happen, and they thank everyone for helping spread the word.
