Area reopens after dead horse blocks road in northwest Charlotte

- A portion of a northwest Charlotte road was shut down four a couple hours Friday morning due to a dead horse blocking the roadway. 

The deceased horse was blocking the road in the 1100 block of Rhyne Road, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. 

CMPD tweeted about the incident just before 6 a.m. Friday. 

Traffic Alert: 1100 block of Rhyne Rd is currently closed due to a deceased horse blocking the roadway. We do not have a time frame on how long the road will be closed.

Officers said they were having a hard time removing the horse from the road. The horse was finally removed around 7:55 a.m. Friday.
