Deputies: 20-year-old "punk" shoots, kills step-father in front of family

- A man wanted in Cleveland County for shooting and killing his step-father has been arrested in Gaffney, South Carolina, according to the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office.

Officials said Davajiha Najee Quemon Hoey, 20, of Cliffside, shot his unarmed step-father several times in front of family members Monday night, killing him.

The incident occurred around 7 p.m. at 137 Chambwood Lane, in a residential neighborhood just east of Boiling Springs. As deputies arrived on scene, they located Orlando Ronell Daniels, 36, lying in the driveway with multiple gunshot wounds.

Daniels was rushed to Carolinas HealthCare System - Cleveland for treatment but tragically died at the hospital, the sheriff's office said.

A warrant for first-degree murder was obtained for Hoey. Deputies said the shooting took place in the front yard of the home, in front of several close family members, who are cooperating. Hoey reportedly came to the home and started a fight with his family. His step-father, Daniels, told him to leave, and the shooting happened a short time later.

“This is a senseless, cowardly murder, committed by a 20-year-old punk. He shot his unarmed step-father several times in front of their family members. He robbed his own mother of her husband, and his own sister of her dad. The shooter was just released from prison in June, and is on active probation. For a 20-year-old, he has spent a lot of time in jail and prison. We are going to send him back there for a long, long time," Sheriff Alan Norman said.

Hoey is awaiting extradition back to Cleveland County, North Carolina.
