Deputies search for man accused of assault, arson and animal cruelty

- Sheriff Coy Reid with the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office wants the public to be on the lookout for Gregory James Carson.

Arrest warrants issued for Carson state he is wanted for assaulting a woman, and then setting her Conover home, located on BJ Drive, on fire with her five animals inside.

Reid said Carson is from the Charlotte area, but was living with his girlfriend who is the victim in this case.

FOX 46 Charlotte spoke with the victim over the phone.

“I just want him found. I want him found and I want him to pay for everything he did to us. That's all I want,” she said. “There was five [animals] in there. And he knew they was in there. He left them there to die.”

Arrest warrants state on July 4, the suspect assaulted the victim by “punching her” and “dragging her through the residence by her arm.”

Arrest warrants state that the following day the suspect set the victim’s home on fire with the animals inside. Two dogs, two fish and a flying squirrel were killed in the fire.

Carson is charged with felony second-degree arson, second-degree kidnapping and cruelty to animals. He's also facing a misdemeanor count of assault on a female.
