Couple fights off robbers, deputies seeking person of interest in Lincoln County

- Detectives are searching for a person of interest in connection to a robbery that took place in Lincoln County on Monday.

According to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, two men walked into Jerry's One Stop at 3778 E. Hwy 27 in Iron Station around 8:00 a.m.

The two men pretended to make a small purchase. When the clerk opened the register one man reached into the drawer and grabbed cash.

The clerk yelled out to the owner of the store who was able to grab the man from behind and take him to the ground.

"I slammed my register drawer shut and shut his hands on it, and at the same time screamed, 'Jerry, they're trying to rob us," Judy Cline said. She's the co-owner of the store who yelled to her husband, Jerry, for help.

The man eventually got away from the owner and he and the other suspect fled the scene on foot going east on Hwy 27.

The person of interest in the incident is Tyrone Matthew Rozzell. Rozzell is described as a black man, 5'6" with brown eyes and black hair. He was last seen driving a silver 2014 Hyundai Elantra with the NC license plate FAB-1872.

No one was seriously injured and detectives are continuing to investigate the incident.

Anyone with information on this robbery or Rozzell's whereabouts is asked to call the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at 704-732-9050 or the Lincoln County Communications Center at 704-735-8202.
