Deputies: Son charged in connection of mother's death in Lancaster Co.

- Robert Hypes, 36, has been charged with murder in connection with the death of his mother, Carolyn Taurino, according to Lancaster County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies with the sheriffs office were called out to a bank in Kershaw in reference to a suspicious man who came into the bank and made inquiries concerning his mother's account.

Hypes left before deputies arrived. Deputies went to Taurino's home but no one answered.

Deputies were able to retrieve surveillance photos from the bank of Hypes in a red Ford Econoline van.

A deputy saw the van traveling into town on East Hilton Street and stopped the van. The deputy discovered the van belonged to Taurino.

Deputies contacted Hypes sister and she told them she hadn't talked to her mother in several days and asked deputies to check on her welfare and that she was wheelchair bound.

Deputies went back to her home and no one answered again so they forced entry. Taurino was found deceased on the floor at a bedroom doorway, it appeared she had been dead for some time, according to deputies.

Deputies said an autopsy showed Taurino died from multiple gunshot wounds.

The investigation is ongoing.  No additional information is available at this time.
