Deputy fired for improper relationships with ex-prisoners

WILLIAMSTON, N.C. (AP) - The Martin County Sheriff's Office says a deputy has been fired for inappropriate relationships with two former prisoners.

A termination letter obtained by WITN-TV in Greenville says 55-year-old Cpl. Claud Ambrose was fired on July 12.

According to the letter, Ambrose had relationships with a former prisoner serving an active confinement sentence and a second former prisoner who he regularly took to doctor's appointments.

On June 28 the letter says Ambrose had sexual contact with one of the women while he was on duty. The letter also revealed that sexually explicit text messages and nude photos were exchanged.

Sheriff Dan Gibbs says Ambrose had been with the sheriff's office for 9 1/2 years. Gibbs said no criminal charges are warranted against Ambrose.
