MOORESVILLE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A dog that was missing from a kennel for almost one week was found dead on I-77 after being hit by a car.
The dog, Chloe, was being boarded at Ike's Dog Pub in Mooresville when she went missing from the facility on June 26. She was found dead on the interstate on June 30.
According to her owner of ten years, Chloe had been rescued from a pit bull fighting ring where she was the bait dog.
The kennel issued a statement to FOX 46 saying, "the dog, as it was being walked to the exercise area, lunged at the front entrance doors and as a result of its weight and momentum managed to push open the doors and ran away."
According to the kennel's management, they did "everything possible" to find Chloe including organizing search parties for three consecutive nights and days, distributing posters of Chloe offering a reward for any person able to find her and getting the Mooresville Police Department and animal control involved.
"Procedures and working practices are being reviewed at Ike's and actions are being taken to ensure such an incident cannot occur again," management said in the statement.
Management at Ike's says they have no further comments.
