WINGATE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A severely emaciated horse who was rescued from the streets of South Carolina has formed a very special bond with a golden retriever at the Carolina Equine Rescue and Assistance in Wingate.
Sammy the horse was brought to the rescue on August 3. He was found wandering the streets of South Carolina, emaciated and not fully developed.
"Honestly with his condition he may not make it but I do feel he deserves a chance and I will help him," Daniela Snyder, who works with the organization said.
Sammy has a long road to recovery ahead of him, but he quickly showed workers at the rescue organization that he was a fighter, and would work to get better.
"Well this little guy is doing fantastic...He is now drinking plenty of water eating small amounts of grain has a salt block and hay," the organization wrote in a Facebook post.
Not long after, Sammy met Molly, a sweet 3-year-old Golden Retriever with a knack for spotting other animals in need of comfort and care.
"Molly truly has an exceptional sense of knowing when one of the animals doesn’t feel good or sad. So she very gently introduces herself. This is her job and she is very good at it as you can see."
Sammy and Molly became fast friends, and Molly is helping to comfort Sammy as he recovers. The vet brought in to check him out says he's gaining weight nicely, his coat is improving and his vitals are good.
We're wishing Sammy a speedy recovery, and we know his BFF Molly will be by his side throughout it!
