Dog rescued in Gaston County severely malnourished, near death

- Over the weekend a watchful neighbor in Gaston County found a dog fenced in a kennel with no food or water.

The dog was so severely malnourished that she couldn’t use her hind legs. The person who found the dog started taking video and immediately posted it to social media.

The video was shared hundreds of times. Gaston County Animal Control came and took control of the dog before handing it over to the FurBabies Animal Rescue in Indian Trail.

"She was very very weak and could barely lift her head. When she got food it was like she swallowed it whole.

It was like she hadn't eaten in who knows when and you can tell she hasn't,” said Daryl Strickland from FurBabies Animal Rescue.

Today, the dog has been named Snowy and is recovering well. She is currently using a doggy wheelchair and could make a full recovery, walking freely once again.

"We have to hear and see about euthanasia all the time and know that dogs are dying because of their conditions. When we can actually pull them out of a situation and make them better there is just no better reward,” said Strickland.

Snowy is on a number of medications and has been diagnosed with heart worm.

For more information on how to adopt Snowy you can call FurBabies Animal Rescue at 704-905-1116.
