Driver killed after getting out of car following crash on I-485

One person died after a crash on Interstate 485 early Saturday morning.

The crash happened just after 5 A.M. on the inner loop between South Boulevard and I-77.  The N.C. Highway Patrol says the driver of a Hyundai lost control of his car because of the wet road.  His car slammed into the center median twice before stopping in the left 2 lanes of the interstate.  Troopers say the driver got out of his car and was standing nearby when an SUV hit his car.  The car then slid and hit the man.  He died a short time later at the scene.

Troopers say the driver of the SUV didn’t see the car blocking the highway because it was dark and raining.

The driver is from the Charlotte area, but his name is not being released until investigators notify his family.
