Driver killed when vehicle goes airborne, hits tree in E Charlotte

- A driver was killed overnight when he lost control of his vehicle, went airborne, and struck a tree in east Charlotte, police said. 

The deadly crash happened at 1:10 a.m. Friday, May 4 in the 100 block of Eastway Drive. 

When officers arrived on scene, they found a car that had struck a tree after running off the right side of the road. The driver, identified as Ralick Regeral McKoy, was pronounced dead on scene. 

Police said McKoy had been driving northeast on Eastway Drive when he ran off the road, hitting a curb. His vehicle then went airborne for a short distance and then hit a tree. 

Speed, alcohol and seatbelt use are suspected as contributing factors in the wreck, police said.
