CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - The driver of a tractor trailer has been transported to the hospital with a broken leg after crashing into a power pole early Tuesday morning in the Steele Creek neighborhood, police said.
The wreck happened at 4:20 a.m. Tuesday, June 12 at the intersection of Westinghouse Blvd and Steele Creek Road.
According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, the tractor trailer hit a low hanging power line and brought down several power poles at the intersection of Westinghouse and Steele Creek. After hitting the power line, the driver of the tractor trailer got out of his vehicle, at which time he was struck by another vehicle that was passing by.
He has a broken leg as a result of being hit, according to CMPD.
Drivers are being asked to avoid this intersection if possible Tuesday as it is closed in three directions. All traffic is being sent south onto Steele Creek Road. Drivers cannot go northbound on Steele Creek past Westinghouse Blvd. This is expected to cause major traffic delays.
Repairs could take several hours.
