Driver, passenger die in southwest Charlotte crash

- Raymond Anthony Lipscomb who was listed in critical condition after a fatal wreck two weeks ago has been pronounced deceased at CMC from the injuries he sustained in the crash, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

CMPD responded to a fatal accident in southwest Charlotte on Monday, June 6.

Officers responded to the 13600 block of Shopton Rd. West near the intersection of Woody Point Rd. around 5:40 p.m.

Louis Gomez was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Express work van traveling north on Shopton Rd. West with a front seat passenger.

Lipscomb was driving a 2011 Hyundai Elantra heading in the opposite direction.

Police say Gomez lost control of his van after the passenger side tires left the roadway onto the shoulder of the road.

Gomez overcorrected and the van slid across the double yellow lane divider into the opposing lane.

The front left of the Chevrolet van slid across the double yellow lane divider into the opposing lane, according to police.

The front left of the Chevrolet van hit the front left of the Hyundai. The van rotated after impact and rolled, ejecting the unrestrained passenger Alexis Arciga, according to police.

Medic responded to the scene and pronounced Arciga deceased. 

Lipscomb was taken to CMC and is listed in critical condition. Gomez was also taken to CMC he was treated and released.

Gomez was arrested and charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and no operators license.
