CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are looking for a driver involved in a hit and run over the weekend in northeast Charlotte that turned fatal.
The crash happened about 10:54 p.m. Saturday in the 5100 block of Reagan Drive near the Royal Inn. According to police, a burgundy SUV was heading west and struck a pedestrian with the front of the vehicle. The pedestrian was thrown and came to rest on the roadway. Police said the SUV immediately turned right into the parking lot of the Royal Inn and stopped. The driver exited the vehicle and walked over to the pedestrian lying on the roadway. The driver then returned to his vehicle and drove away without reporting the collision, police said.
The SUV was last seen turning right out of the parking lot of the Royal Inn traveling towards Graham Street.
The victim, whose name has not yet been released, was taken to the hospital. Police said they died from their injuries Wednesday night.
The suspect vehicle is a burgundy mid -sized SUV, possible a Nissan Rogue. Police said the SUV has luggage roof rails and will have damage to the front bumper, headlight, hood and possible damage to the windshield.
Police said the driver is a white male or light-skinned black male or Latino. He is average build and approximately 5'8" to 6’ in height.
