IREDELL CO., NC (WJZY) - The body of missing swimmer, Isaiah Cruz, has been ruled as a drowning, according to N.C. Wildlife.
Wildlife officials said on Sunday evening 29-year-old Cruz, his brother, brother-in-law and his wife were in a boat on Lake Norman.
The family, who lives in the Charlotte area, were using a friend's boat and it was not their first time using it. Officials said the boat was a Singray ski boat.
All of the men jumped out to swim. The wind was very strong and caused the boat to start drifting away from them.
N.C. Wildlife said all three men became distressed in the water and started swimming back. Cruz was unable to make it back to the boat.
Once the brothers made it to the boat, they tried throwing ropes, but due to the wind they were unable to reach Cruz. They could not get the boat cranked before they lost sight of him under the surface of the water, according to N.C. Wildlife.
Officials said no alcohol was involved, or found on the boat.
Life-jackets were found in the boat but none of the three men were wearing them.
This incident marks the first drowning on Lake Norman in 2016. Catawba County Medical Examiner is conducting an autopsy.
