ROCK HILL, S.C. - A day many are remembering a fallen hero. The Extended Bike Family Hundreds lined the streets of York County to ride to Detective Michael Doty's grave to raise funds to help his family and the officers injured in an ambush back in January.
"When we got the news on the fatal incident in January 16th, we got together as a group and we said we need to do something," Extended Bike Family Rider Bunny Hyatt said.
The group, made up of 20 ladies, have been organizing rides to help bikers and other people that may other local non-profits can’t help.
"Part of this money goes to the families but part of this goes to equip the Sheriff Officers as well, so they have the equipment they need, so we don't lose another officer," Extended Bike Family Rider Sandi Autten said.
The Extended Biker Family tells FOX 46, when they lose someone near and dear to their heart, they will place an angel on their grave so it can be with them in eternity.
Even after four months, being at Detective Doty's grave still cuts deep for the York County Community.
"Please be with those who love and honor Officer Doty, for his sacrifice. There have been so many wonderful things said about this wonderful young man and we thank you for allowing him to be on this earth for such a short time to bless us and protect us. Father, please be with his family, please be with his fellow officers, so they don't have to experience this," Autten prayed.
These riders say it's the least they can do for those who gave all.
"The risk that they take every day, that they get up and put on their uniform and go out on the street to protect us, then we need to pay back," Hyatt said.
