Families brave cold for New Year's celebration in Uptown Charlotte

The frigid temperatures in Uptown Charlotte didn’t stop some people from enjoying New Year’s Eve Celebrations Sunday night at Romare Bearden Park.

But before the music started blasting in the park, some families had their doubts about venturing out in the cold….

“Five minutes and I said maybe we can stay home and say Happy New Year watching TV, but we really want to be here.”

It’s the first New Year’s Eve in the United States for Isabel and Cristina Martinez. They moved to the Charlotte area from Colombia.

“I’m wearing like 5 clothes and I’m still cold,” 8-year old Cristina said.

Several families told Fox 46 Charlotte it’s their first time coming to Romare Bearden park for Charlotte’s celebration.

“We have a hotel really close and we can run in, warm up and come back out, if we need to,” said Chrystal Miller, who is visiting Charlotte from Summerville, SC.

Families enjoyed the night, despite the blast of cold.

“I’m looking forward to bringing in 2018.”
