Family friend hopes petition support gets NCDOT to improve road after death of child

- A family friend is trying to get results and make a road safer after a 7-year-old lost her life in a car crash in June.

"This road is one of the most dangerous stretches of roads. This curve in partuclar because of the embankment drop off is one of the more dangerous curves I've seen," said Salvatore Pecorella.

Pecorella is a family friend of the parents of Lyla Chaudhary.

Chuadhary died from injuries in a single car accident on June 30th off of Sam Newell Road in Matthews.

Pecorella created an online petition in hopes NCDOT will put a guard rail at the crash site.

"The biggest reason I want this to take off is so my friend has some closure. So something like this being erected to save further lives will really help him heal and move past it," said Pecorella.

Pecorella was out at the crash site again Friday taking pictures of the area to give to NCDOT to strengthen their case for a guard rail.

He adds because of the support gathered thus far and his passion for this project that he's optimistic change will happen.
